Messi, Ronaldo and 10 Champions League records can never be broken

Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have created many spectacular landmarks in the Champions League, including 10 records that can never be broken.

1. The fastest hat-trick (7 and a half minutes – Bafetimbi Gomis vs Dinamo Zagreb, 2011/12)

Sadio Mane can score the fastest hat-trick in the Premier League with 2 minutes and 56 minutes, but in the C1 Cup no one can compare. With 7 and a half minutes, the Lyon striker surpassed the record set by Mike Newell in 1995.

2. Most goals in a knockout match (5 – Lionel Messi vs Leverkusen, 2011/12)

Messi was the only player to score 5 goals in 90 minutes in a knockout match, helping Barca destroy Leverkusen 7-1 in the round of 1/8.

3. Keep the most clean sheets in a row (10 – Jens Lehmann – October 2005 to April 2006)

After conceding to Ajax in the second match of 2005/06 against Arsenal, Lehmann went through the remaining 4 group stage matches and the entire knockout round and conceded no goal.

Sent off after 18 minutes in the final, Lehmann kept a clean sheet a total of more than 800 minutes, or 13.5 hours.

4. Most goals for a goalkeeper (3 – Hans-Jorg Butt)

It’s hard to believe that a goalkeeper scored 3 goals in the Champions League and all against Juventus.

Butt humiliated Juventus in Hamburg, Leverkusen and Bayern Munich with all three goals from the penalty spot.

5. Most goals in a match (12 – Dortmund 8-4 Legia Warsaw, 2016/17)

The crazy match took place at Signal Iduna Park 4 years ago with Reus and Kagawa making twice. Remarkably, up to 6 goals were scored after the first 29 minutes only.

6. Oldest player (43 years and 253 days – Marco Ballotta vs Real Madrid, 2007/08)

Ballotta conceded 3 goals against Real Madrid just a few months before his 44th birthday, breaking Alessandro Costacurta’s previous record of nearly 3 years.

It should be noted that the second oldest player in the tournament’s history, Olexandr Shovkovskiy, is still two years behind Ballotta.

7. Most goals in a season (17 – Cristiano Ronaldo, 2013/14)

The Real Madrid superstar scored 9 goals in the group stage, 4 goals in the 1/8 round, 1 goal in the quarterfinals, 2 in the semi-finals and another in the final.

The only person who has ever approached to beat this record is Ronaldo.

8. The match with the most spectators (115,500 – Barcelona vs PSG, 1994/95)

Although the Nou Camp still boasts the largest capacity in the Champions League, changes to the stadium’s rules have reduced the number of spectators in modern times. Fans may never see this 6-digit landmark again.

9. The defender has the most goals in a match (3 – Layvin Kurzawa vs Anderlecht, 2017/18)

PSG left-back became the first player to achieve this feat two years ago. No defender will ever score 4 in a Champions League match.

10. Youngest player to make a hat-trick (18 years and 114 days – Raul vs Ferencvaros, 1995/96)

Only five teenage players have ever scored a Champions League hat-trick, of which Real Madrid legend Raul is the youngest.

Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes threatened this record by setting up a hat-trick against Galatasaray last year with more than 200 days.
